Cotai
Cotai is a plot of land in Macao located between Taipa and Coloane Islands that has been designated by the Macanese government as a casino and tourism district.Based on the number of projects and size of investment, it would seem that Cotai is destined to become Asia’s premier gambling and entertainment destination.

All in, I count close to 30,000 hotel rooms that will be built in Cotai by 2010. This number is a little fuzzy since plans change, expansions could be put on hold, etc. Las Vegas Sands’ Cotai Strip® alone will be responsible for approximately 20,000 of those hotel rooms.
In the planning stages
- Wynn Resorts is planning on developing what sounds to be an amazing casino in Cotai.
- MGM Mirage has said their joint venture with Pansy Ho, MGM Paradise, is in the planning stages of a Cotai hotel casino as well.
- Harrah’s has a large golf course in Cotai, but due to recent government restrictions on new casinos and gaming, it appears that this may not be developed as a casino until the restrictions are lifted or eased.
