From Reuters:

Las Vegas Sands Corp might spin off billions of dollars of Macau retail assets into a property fund, but is under no pressure for a quick sale despite problems funding ambitious casino expansion, an executive said.

The company, which runs the giant Venetian Macao casino and is building more hotels and casinos in the territory, floated the idea of selling its shops into a listed property trust a couple of years ago.

But with stock markets tanking in the last year, hitting real estate investment trusts (REITs) hard, Las Vegas Sands is now considering packaging the property into a fund for institutional investors.

“It’s something we’ll look at, whether it’s a wholesale fund or a REIT,” David Sylvester, the company’s head of retail in Asia, told Reuters in an interview.  Read more

I only have two comments:

1) What happened to the Destination Macau guy? He was Destination Macau in my opinion. Nothing against this lady, but there’s no comparison.

3) Im glad there is a video for the Mall at Studio City, but what about the actual Macao Studio City resort??? What in the world is the status of that thing?

Linkin Park has been forced to cancel their upcoming Music For Relief Concerts in Mainland China, Macau and Taipei as lead vocalist Chester Bennington has sustained a back injury and is under doctor’s orders to refrain from traveling or any physical activities. Linkin Park sincerely regrets this unavoidable cancellation and apologizes to fans for any disappointment caused. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

The concerts were organized as fundraisers to benefit Sichuan, an area ravaged by a devastating earthquake this past May. However, thanks to generous donations from concert promoter Emma Ticketmaster and Linkin Park, funds will still be contributed to the band’s nonprofit organization, Music for Relief, and matched by the World Bank. Las Vegas Sands Celebrates Opening of Second Cotai Strip(R) Property and Launch of New World-Class Retail and Entertainment Offerings

One year after the hugely successful opening of Macao’s first truly integrated casino resort — The Venetian Macao — Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS - News) today celebrated the opening of its second Cotai Strip(TM) property, the Four Seasons Hotel Macao. The celebration also marked the world premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s ZAIA at The Venetian Macao, and the official opening of the luxurious new Shoppes at Four Seasons.

“Today marks yet another significant milestone in the overall effort to transform Macao into an international leisure and business destination,” said Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp. “The key to building a successful tourist destination is being able to assemble the critical mass of attractions needed to make the location more unique and compelling than its rival destinations. The Cotai Strip’s array of leisure, entertainment, and business offerings has already helped Macao attract a greater number of visitors from across the region and beyond and in the longer-term its popularity will further facilitate Macao’s evolution into an extremely successful and desirable international tourist destination.”

The Wall Street Journal has a nice background article about the Cirque du Soleil show Zaia that will begin later on this month at the Cotai Strip’s Venetian Macao Resort.

The article is well worth a quick read, and there were a few things I found interesting. One was that Cirque contract with the Venetian Macao is for ten years.  I have no idea how long the contracts run for in Las Vegas, but ten years is certainly a long one.  Also, Cirque is preparing a second Cotai Strip show that will run at the Sheraton Macao Hotel Cotai Strip in 2009 (cant remember if I knew this). Avril Lavigne is coming to the Cotai Strip® in Macao.  I didnt realize she was popular (or known) in China, but I guess we’ll find out.  The Cotai Arena can hold 15,000 people so we’ll see if she sells out.

I copied the press release below and also imbedded two of her more popular songs.  I always got the impression that her music attracted a mostly female following, and that guys tolerated her music, for, uh, well, watch the videos and you’ll see.

In my last post, as I was busy plugging my new site DailyDoseofVegas.com, I rambled on a bit about how important nightclubs and nightlife has become to Las Vegas. It really is pretty amazing how Las Vegas has transformed itself from a gambling and $5 buffet destination to the nightlife and entertainment capital of the United States. At this point, around half of the revenue generated on the Las Vegas Strip is non-gaming. I dont know the figures in Macao, but if I had to guess, Read more

Cirque du Soleil and Las Vegas Sands finally made an announcement providing some details for their much awaited Cirque show on LVS’s Cotai Strip®. The show will be called Zaia and is scheduled to start this spring in Zaia’s special 1,800 seat theatre at the Venetian Macao.

This is pretty exciting news for Macao. If you’ve been to Vegas, you know its hard to go anywhere in Las Vegas without seeing a Cirque advertisement, since it seems to be a Cirque show at almost every major resort on the Strip. The shows are pretty spectacular (and expensive), and Zaia should be a big step in making Macao the entertainment capital of Asia. Read more

It doesnt get any bigger than Celine Dion. She’s been entertaining Vegas at Caesars for years, and now she has finally hit Las Vegas Sands’ Cotai Strip at the one and only Venetian Macao. The afterparty was almost as good as the actual event, as you can see from this Destination Macau video.
