Looks like the Cotai Strip condos are back up for sale.  From today’s LVS filing:

On October 29, 2008, the office of the Secretary for Transportation and Public Works for the Macau Special Administrative Region of The People’s Republic of China (the “Macau Government”) published an amendment (the “Land Concession Amendment”) to the Land Concession by Lease (the “Land Concession”) between the Macau Government and Venetian Cotai, Limited (”VCL”), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp. (the “Company”) in Macau’s Official Gazette (the “Official Gazette”).

The Land Concession Amendment separated the retail mall use from the hotel use for Lot II (the “Four Seasons Macao Hotel”) and authorized VCL to subdivide the Four Seasons Macao Hotel into four independent strata title units consisting of the following: (i) a five star hotel, including gaming areas, entertainment, leisure, restaurants and other supporting areas (112,167 square meters); (ii) a four star apartment-hotel, which corresponds to the most luxurious classification of apartment-hotel permitted in Macau (101,028 square meters); Read more

This is all so confusing.

Las Vegas Sands put this press release out just a few days ago which said, “The legal separation of the property will allow the company to transfer the apartment hotel building into a separate cooperative holding company and to sell cooperative interests in the tower in a manner similar to the way apartment units are sold in New York City and other international locations.”

Now, the Macau Daily Times is reporting the following:  Read more

zaia

(see below for more pictures and video)

ZAIA, the very first permanent Cirque du Soleil production to open in Asia, celebrated its world premiere on August 28, 2008 at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel in Macau to coincide with the 1st Anniversary of its host resort-hotel.

Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian-based global entertainment company providing high-quality artistic entertainment. Cirque du Soleil productions have played to almost 80 million spectators in over 200 cities on five continents. In 2008, Cirque du Soleil is presenting 17 shows simultaneously throughout the world. Each production fuses innovative acrobatics, theatre, dance and music with spectacular costumes, lighting and make-up. Cirque du Soleil has successfully toured to 13 cities in Asia, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei and Shanghai with Big Top productions but ZAIA will be the first production to be housed within a permanent theatre in the region. The Wall Street Journal has a nice background article about the Cirque du Soleil show Zaia that will begin later on this month at the Cotai Strip’s Venetian Macao Resort.

The article is well worth a quick read, and there were a few things I found interesting. One was that Cirque contract with the Venetian Macao is for ten years.  I have no idea how long the contracts run for in Las Vegas, but ten years is certainly a long one.  Also, Cirque is preparing a second Cotai Strip show that will run at the Sheraton Macao Hotel Cotai Strip in 2009 (cant remember if I knew this). Avril Lavigne is coming to the Cotai Strip® in Macao.  I didnt realize she was popular (or known) in China, but I guess we’ll find out.  The Cotai Arena can hold 15,000 people so we’ll see if she sells out.

I copied the press release below and also imbedded two of her more popular songs.  I always got the impression that her music attracted a mostly female following, and that guys tolerated her music, for, uh, well, watch the videos and you’ll see.

Cirque du Soleil and Las Vegas Sands finally made an announcement providing some details for their much awaited Cirque show on LVS’s Cotai Strip®. The show will be called Zaia and is scheduled to start this spring in Zaia’s special 1,800 seat theatre at the Venetian Macao.

This is pretty exciting news for Macao. If you’ve been to Vegas, you know its hard to go anywhere in Las Vegas without seeing a Cirque advertisement, since it seems to be a Cirque show at almost every major resort on the Strip. The shows are pretty spectacular (and expensive), and Zaia should be a big step in making Macao the entertainment capital of Asia. Read more

Here is a collection of videos from the Venetian Macao. If you’ve ever been to the Venetian in Macao or Las Vegas, you can just skip this. If you havent, and have about six minutes to spare, you may want to quickly look through the videos I’ve assembled. Most are about 30 seconds in length, with the exception being the second video, which is a little longer but well worth it. Read more

It doesnt get any bigger than Celine Dion. She’s been entertaining Vegas at Caesars for years, and now she has finally hit Las Vegas Sands’ Cotai Strip at the one and only Venetian Macao. The afterparty was almost as good as the actual event, as you can see from this Destination Macau video.

My favorite Police song, “So Lonely”

the-police-macau.jpgStuff like this is great for The Venetian, Cotai Strip® tourism, Macau, and most importantly, its tourists. They may be balding and grey, but they still rock…

“The Venetian Macau Resort Hotel and Live Nation Global Touring have confirmed that The Police will perform at The Venetian Arena in Macao, on 7th February 2008.

This could reduce the amount of time it takes the Venetian to ferry people from Hong Kong to its Cotai Strip® properties by about fifteen minutes. The new ferry terminal in Taipa will help avoid all the traffic you have to deal with when you arrrive in the Macau Peninsula ferry terminal.
