Wynn expanding its Asian presence?

I plan on keeping my two blogs pretty separate, but sometimes there may be something interesting elsewhere that could be of interest to those following the Macao gaming industry, and I’ll try and bring it to your attention.
So for those who care, it looks like Wynn may play a part in a US$2.5 billion casino project in Manila Bay, Philippines with its largest non-Steve shareholder, Aruze.

“I Stanley Ho will not agree with the Oceanus project, I think too big, too much, we can not operate such a huge project involving so many factors. It may be a good idea from the start but it doesn’t work, I am giving up this project and I think the government is supporting me 100 percent.”

Cotai Strip® shopping

1 down, 1 almost down, and three to go. According to IHT.com, LVS announced that it plans to open its second of five shopping malls on the Cotai Strip this July.
The upcoming mall will feature 100 brands across 200,000 plus square feet of space. The company also plans on opening an additional three shopping malls, and when all five shopping malls are complete, LVS’ Cotai Strip will have 1,200 stores across more than 3 million square feet. Read more

Macao’s looming job problem

At this point, everyone knows about the massive number of jobs that LVS’ Cotai Strip and its competition in Cotai will create and the upward pressure it has created on wages. If you live in Macau you know this better then anyone, and probably have your focus set on next year and 2010, when most of the Cotai casino and hotel complexes will open. If you’re a Macau outsider, you’ve likely read about the jobs creation and seen the headlines from time to time.

Yes, Ive launched a new website called GlobalCasinoBoom.com. I hope the name speaks for itself, but if it doesn’t, then here goes.
The site’s purpose is to track the dreaming, planning, development, construction, and opening phases of the biggest, and most exciting casinos in the world. We all know there is a lot of great stuff happening here in Macao, but there really is a lot of interesting and exciting stuff happening outside of Macao too. If you follow the gaming news, there is a lot of discussion on opening new gaming markets virtually everywhere around the world, and with that discussion there is usually proposals for new billion dollar casino resorts. So the new sites focus will be on these new emerging gaming markets and their casinos, plus all the exciting stuff happening here in Cotai, and of course Vegas. Four Seasons Macao opening pushed back

Macau Daily Times is reporting that Cotai’s third hotel opening, the Four Seasons Hotel Macao, will now be opening sometime in the third quarter of 2008. According to the General Manager, its not really a delay, “June was the target date but we have always said we were going to be around the third quarter of 2008.” Read more

Land reclamation part II

I wasnt aware of this. From BlogMacau.info:
“Macau has submitted to the Central Government a revised reclamation plan with a total area of just four square km, a principal official clarified.
Secretary for Transport and Public Works Lau Si Io (劉仕堯) emphasised that there are no plans to reclaim 20 square km of land as reported by the Macao Daily News earlier.
He also pointed out that the revision is based on the comments made by the central government agencies on the environmental impact of the project. Read more
