LVS wants to build more Cotai Strips®
Filed Under Cotai, Las Vegas Sands | 4 Comments
In his quest for global gaming domination, Sheldon Adelson discussed his desire to build more multi-billion dollar Cotai Strip® like casino destinations around the world, but with one caveat - it has to be on his terms of NO TAXES.
LVS’s argument to a potential hosting country would be that if LVS is risking an investment of $15-20 billion dollars, while creating hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs and bringing in millions of new tourists into the country, the arrangement would still be a big win-win for both parties.
What Mr. Adelson brings to the table - his success in Vegas, Macau and Singapore, plus global clout and billions - could be so compelling that I wouldnt be surprised if at least one country takes him up on his offer. Read more

Crown Macau: the new VIP king
Filed Under Cotai, Taipa, Crown Macau | 1 Comment
Congratulations to the Crown Macau on its dramatic turnaround. The six-star hotel casino continues to gain market share, particularily in the high-end VIP segment. One Wall Street gaming analyst recently wrote:
“Thanks to A-Max’s junkets, Melco PBL’s market share improved substantially from 5.7 per cent in November to 18.1 per cent in February, making Crown Macau the busiest casino in the world in terms of betting volume,” Credit Suisse’s Hong Kong-based gambling analyst, Gabriel Chan, says in a bullish new report on the company.
“If we focus on market share in the high-roller segment alone, the improvement was even more astonishing with market share increasing from 6.6 per cent in November to 24.8 per cent in February.”

Is the Vegas Strip greener than the Cotai Strip®?
Filed Under Macau, Macao, Cotai | Leave a Comment

Apparently the answer is yes. I thought this was a very interesting article, not just because of how eco-friendly Las Vegas is getting, but also because I have never seen or heard any of the Macau casino companies talking about building green casinos.
I guess its good to be environmentally friendly and go green, but its especially good when you can mix environmental green with good old fashioned American green (dollars!!!). Read more

Celine hits the Cotai Strip®
Filed Under Macau, Macao, Cotai, Venetian Macao, Concerts | Leave a Comment
It doesnt get any bigger than Celine Dion. She’s been entertaining Vegas at Caesars for years, and now she has finally hit Las Vegas Sands’ Cotai Strip at the one and only Venetian Macao. The afterparty was almost as good as the actual event, as you can see from this Destination Macau video.

38,000 hotel rooms. 9,000 gaming tables. 25,000 slot machines. These are all huge and important figures, but we never hear about one of the most important metrics in Macau. Here’s a hint 759,000 square metres. What can it be? Roads? Gaming space? Shopping? Maybe coastline? None of the above Read more

Las Vegas imploding?

This is for those of you in Asia who may not follow Las Vegas that closely. The city of Las Vegas is located in the state of Nevada, and it ain’t pretty there after several years of a booming, thriving local economy. Things may be going great in Macau now and for the foreseeable future, but remember this - nothing goes up forever. Read more

Macau Studio City’s Ritz Carlton nervous?
Filed Under Macau, Macao, Cotai, eSun and New Cotai, Ritz Carlton Macao | Leave a Comment
Take a look at this quote about Macau Studio City’s Ritz Carlton Macao hotel from the Macau Daily Times:
He (Macau Studio City President Simon Cooper) added that Macau does not have the international air routes to develop a Las Vegas style entertainment centre.
The hotel is still definitely committed to the Cotai project, Ambrose Cheung told the Macau Daily Times yesterday, adding that the hotel is nervous about theincreasing competition.
“Hoteliers are always cautious and if you think about it you are getting close to 18,000 rooms in Macau and close to 50,000 in the next few years,” said Mr Cheung.

Hengqin Island

It seems to me that this whole Hengqin Island development is moving at a snail’s pace. There is so much potential there and it makes so much sense though, that I think its worth being very patient for.
You cant be overly critical of LVS and Galaxy because there is only so much you can do when you’re waiting on the government for approvals. The truth is that the government has all the leverage.
I bring this topic up, first, because I havent written on Hengqin Island in a while Read more

Texas Hold’em Poker in Macau
Filed Under Macau, Macao, Cotai, Grand Lisboa, Texas Hold'em Poker | 2 Comments
It looks like the Poker craze that hit America about five years ago is starting to catch on in Macau. Ok, that may be an overstatement since you can only play Texas Hold’em at one casino in Macau - The Grand Lisboa. It is interesting though to see that it is doing well there and the casino is expanding its number of poker tables. Plus, it looks like Galaxy has also applied to get approval to offer poker at Starworld.
The casinos really dont make much money at their poker tables, but it is so popular in the US that gamblers demand it. I wouldnt bet on this trend to spread to some of the older SJM casinos, but in three years when Las Vegas Sands’ Cotai Strip fully Read more
